Examples of Bush Poetry

There have been some marvellous exponents of bush poetry in our past. Who could forget "Banjo" Paterson, or Henry Lawson, who are probably two of the most famous of our bush poets.

But there were many others including Adam Lindsay Gordon, Will Ogilvie, "Breaker" Morant, C.J. Dennis and Barcroft Boake to name but a few. Their work has immortalised the times in which they lived. Whilst many of their works are stories, you will also find many of them provide social comment on the times in which they lived. Often this is woven through a piece of work in a subtle manner that the reader will have to discern themselves. For this is the beauty of poetry. It is imagery in words and it is for you the reader to discover the ultimate beauty of the meanings within.

Here we present for your enjoyment, two immortal classics. "The Man From Snowy River" by A.B. "Banjo" Paterson and "In The Days When The World Was Wide" by Henry Lawson. Click on the links below to take you to the poems. They will open in a separate browser window, so when you are finished reading, simply close the window to return to this page.
