Central Goldfields Bush Poets Events Page
Apart from our regular meetings and concerts, we conduct a major annual event which we consider to be very important. This is our Junior Bush Poetry Event. This involves both Performance and Written sections and we endeavour to attract as much interest from the schools serviced by our area.
The club has run this event since formation almost and in 2003
the first event was conducted at the Railway Hall in Bendigo. In 2004
the venue was moved to Marong and 2005 will see us conducting the event
in Wedderburn which is 75 kilometres north west of Bendigo. The event
will be staged on the 8th October at the Hard Hill Tourist Reserve in
Wedderburn. This is a magnificent setting for Bush Poetry and we hope
to attract an even bigger field of entrants from the surrounding schools.
The smiles on the children at left evidence their enjoyment of the event.
You can also see that many of them took the opportunity to dress up in
appropriate attire. It was a great experience for all concerned.
The club feels that it is essential to run events such as this for our school children. This is a great opportunity for them to learn of the past masters, study some of their stories and poems and keep the history and heritage of Australia alive.
There have been some marvellous success stories come out of this event. Several of the young people have competed in both years in both the written and performance sections. Recently at "The Murray Muster" held in Mulwala, NSW, it was fantastic to hear the names of some of our local children winning prizes in the Junior written sections. This is what it is all about for our club. This is the way in which we can pass on to these children the wonderful pleasure of Australian Bush Poetry.
This event is not cheap to run, like all things in life it costs money. The club is desperately seeking a sponsor or sponsors to assist us with costs and trophies and prizemoney for the children. If you are a business or even a private individual that would like to assist in this regard, then please do not hesitate to contact us for further information.
